S.M.A.R.T. Monitoring Tools
Utility programs for controlling and monitoring disk storage systems.
Originally derived from the Linux smartsuite package, the S.M.A.R.T. Monitoring Tools package contains two utility programs- smartctl and smartd, which control and monitor storage systems using the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) System built into most modern ATA and SCSI harddisks. These utilities can often provide advanced warning of disk degradation or failure. The smartmontools package is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and other operating systems.
